مجتبی واحدی با اشاره به مذاکرات میان ایران و آمریکا معتقد است که اصل ماجرا پیش‌تر تعیین تکلیف شده و آنچه امروز به‌عنوان مذاکره مطرح می‌شود، بیشتر جنبه نمایشی دارد. به باور او، تصمیم اصلی یا همان «توافق یا تسلیم» از قبل شکل گرفته و گفت‌وگوهای فعلی صرفاً برای مدیریت افکار عمومی است.

او تأکید می‌کند که این روند بیشتر شبیه یک سناریوی از پیش نوشته‌شده است؛ جایی که طرفین نقش‌های خود را ایفا می‌کنند تا نتیجه‌ای که قبلاً مورد توافق قرار گرفته، به‌تدریج اعلام شود. از نگاه او، این وضعیت نشان‌دهنده کاهش قدرت چانه‌زنی واقعی در میز مذاکره است.

در نهایت، واحدی این مذاکرات را نوعی «تئاتر سیاسی» می‌داند که هدف آن آماده‌سازی فضای داخلی و خارجی برای پذیرش یک نتیجه از پیش تعیین‌شده است؛ نتیجه‌ای که ممکن است با روایت رسمی متفاوت ارائه شود.
