Putin spent a decade turning Crimea into the most fortified peninsula in Europe. Anti-ship missiles, S-400 batteries, a naval base projecting power across the entire Black Sea. At least two drones struck energy infrastructure and facilities of U.S. contractors on Friday evening, according to two security officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak with the press. According to Associated Press the security officials added that unmanned aerial vehicles targeted a compound housing foreign oil company offices and warehouses, triggering fires at facilities linked to U.S. energy services firms. The attack comes amid a spate of drone and missile incidents across Iraq and the region, including strikes on oil fields and the cargo section of the Basra International Airport.

Esmail Qaani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC, has reportedly been taken into custody by Iranian authorities themselves, amid suspicions that he may have links to the Israeli secret service, Mossad.

Recall, the US and Israeli airstrike on Iran on Saturday morning killed numerous Iranian officials, including Khamenei. The sole survivor was Ismail Kani, commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Kani, accused of spying in his own country, was reportedly detained for questioning. According to unofficial sources and reports circulating in the media and social networks, Qaani has survived several assassination attempts in recent months. According to the same sources, he was last seen in the presence of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, just a day ago. However, it is alleged that he has since disappeared from the public scene again.
Reports suggest that within the IRGC structures there are strong suspicions of Qaani, accusing him of possible collaboration with Israel. So far there has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities regarding these claims, and the information remains unconfirmed by independent sources.
At the time, accusations arose that Kani was an "agent." However, the Mossad denied these accusations. A Mossad statement stated: "Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Ismail Kani is not our spy." It denied months of speculation that the Iranian general had defected at the behest of Israeli intelligence.
Esmail Qaani took over the leadership of the Quds Force in January 2020, following the killing of his predecessor, Qasem Soleimani, in a US strike in Baghdad. The Quds Force is the IRGC's foreign operations arm and plays a key role in Iran's military and strategic operations abroad. According to sources, Qaani's phenomenal instincts have saved him from certain death for the third time in a row under identical circumstances: September 2024: Qaani leaves Hezbollah's secret council in Beirut early. Minutes later, the bunker is razed to the ground, along with Hassan Nasrallah and the entire group's top brass. June 2025: The general urgently leaves the IRGC headquarters. Immediately afterward, the IDF carries out a targeted strike on the office. Now: Miraculous rescue from the Ayatollah's residence. "Three such coincidences in a row are mathematically impossible. Either the general has a prophetic level of paranoid intuition, or he has a tracking device in his pocket that the Israelis use as a 'good to strike' marker immediately after he leaves the kill radius. The IRGC is experiencing extreme paranoia right now," the source comments.

US and Israeli aviation have continued powerful missile strikes on Iran’s capital, Tehran and other regions across the country in the second week of the war . Videos circulating on social media show explosions and fires in various parts of the city. One video shows the aftermath of the IDF attack on Tehran as the thick smoke rises over the city’s skyline following explosions. Powerful explosions were also reported in the Quds district near Tehran, followed by a fire. Missiles struck the Karden building in Tehran, with local residents reporting several strong explosions at the site of the incident. Yet another air strike has been launched in Kerman airport in southeastern Iran. Tasnim news agency quoted a regional official as saying that the attack has damaged part of the airport. Two old aircraft in the airdrome, four fuel storage tanks at the Airport have also been hit, according to Israeli media. According to witnesses, explosions were heard at several locations in the area, and smoke was seen rising in parts of the city. The joint US and Israel that began on February 28 have targeted multiple targets in the capital Tehran, killing 40 people. However, these operations have not been limited to Tehran alone; oil depots, refineries and other infrastructure around the capital and in nearby provinces have also been targeted, causing large fires and a thick haze over urban areas.

Several Iranian oil vessels have reportedly been struck in the Persian Gulf amid escalating hostilities involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Tankers believed to be transporting crude oil from Iranian terminals were damaged in coordinated strikes, raising fears of a broader disruption to energy flows through one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors. Visuals circulating in social media capture moments of massive precision strike at one of the tankers near Bandar-Abbas port southwest of Iran. The strike is followed by a powerful explosion and black smoke. According to the report the hit tanker is one of the three Iranian oil tankers that were struck in the waters of the Persian Gulf recently. Recent days have seen several commercial tankers and vessels hit or damaged in Gulf waters as the war has escalated. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, has openly claimed strikes on tankers that continued to transit the Strait of Hormuz despite Tehran’s threats and warnings after the Gulf became a war‑risk zone. Shipping tracking feeds and maritime security sources indicate that multiple tankers have been damaged off the key chokepoint, with at least three vessels reported struck in the past week as Iran warned no ships would be permitted to pass after U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iranian targets triggered retaliatory operations. Some incidents around the Strait of Hormuz, a passage that carries about 20 % of the world’s oil supply, have already resulted in crew casualties and injuries.

Supporters of Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi rallied on the sidelines of a gathering of world leaders in Germany on Saturday, aiming to crank up international pressure on Tehran. According to Associated Press banging drums and chanting for regime change, the large and boisterous demonstration in Munich was part of what Pahlavi described as a “global day of action" to support Iranians in the wake of deadly nationwide protests. Pahlavi also called for rallies in Los Angeles and Toronto. “Change, change, regime change” chanted the crowd of many thousands of people, waving green-white-and-red flags with lion and sun emblems. Iran used that flag before its 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the Pahlavi dynasty. Some demonstrators sported “Make Iran Great Again" red caps, mimicking the MAGA caps worn by US President Donald Trump's supporters.
Many waved placards showing Pahlavi, some that called him a king.
The son of Iran’s deposed shah has been in exile for nearly 50 years but is trying to position himself as a player in Iran’s future. The crowd chanted “Pahlavi for Iran” and “democracy for Iran" as drums and cymbals sounded. Police said at least 15,000 people attended, German news agency dpa reported. Daniyal Mohtashamian said he traveled from Zurich, in Switzerland, to speak up for protesters inside Iran who faced repression. “There is an internet blackout and their voices are not going outside of Iran,” he said. Iranian leaders are already under intense pressure, facing renewed threats of US military action. Trump wants Iran to further scale back its nuclear program. He suggested on Friday that regime change in Iran “would be the best thing that could happen." Iran was also the focus of protests in Munich on Friday, the opening day of an annual security conference in the city gathering European leaders and global security figures. Supporters of the Iranian opposition group People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran, also known as the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, demonstrated against Iran's deadly crackdown on protesters last month. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency says at least 7,005 people were killed in the protest, including 214 government forces. It has been accurate in counting deaths during previous rounds of unrest in Iran and relies on a network of activists in Iran to verify deaths. Iran’s government offered its only death toll on Jan. 21, saying 3,117 people were killed. Iran’s theocracy in the past has undercounted or not reported fatalities from past unrest. The Associated Press has been unable to independently assess the death toll, given authorities have disrupted internet access and international calls in Iran.

Israel on Wednesday said it had struck around 300 defense systems and ballistic missiles during its strikes on Iran.

According to Associated Press israeli military spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said forces hit a Revolutionary Guard complex in eastern Tehran and had also struck sites "within the Iranian nuclear infrastructure".

Defrin meanwhile, said two Israeli soldiers were injured as a result of fire from Hezbollah.

It comes as Israel's military ordered residents of dozens of border villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate “immediately” Wednesday as airstrikes on suburbs of Beirut intensified and Hezbollah claimed more attacks.

Lebanon was dragged into the broader war in the Middle East early Monday when Hezbollah fired rockets and drones into northern Israel, triggering Israeli retaliatory airstrikes that killed more than 70 people, wounded more than 400 and displaced tens of thousands of people from southern Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa Valley and Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The ongoing conflict is not the first between Hezbollah and Israel.

Hezbollah began firing into Israel a day after the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on southern Israel triggered the war in Gaza.

After months of low-level fighting, a full-scale war erupted in September 2024 and Israel later launched a ground invasion of Lebanon.

Israeli forces withdrew from most of southern Lebanon after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire halted the fighting in late 2024, but continued to occupy five points on the Lebanese side of the border.

The war has killed more than 1,000 people in Iran, more than 70 in Lebanon and around a dozen in Israel, according to officials in those countries.

It has disrupted the supply of the world’s oil and gas, snarled international shipping, and stranded hundreds of thousands of travelers in the Middle East.

The Crimean Bridge has not yet been destroyed to allow civilians and military personnel to leave Crimea, avoiding the need to apprehend Russian soldiers in the peninsula's mountains. This was stated by military expert Kirill Sazonov on the "Factory of News " program.

"That's precisely why it hasn't been hit yet. Incidentally, it's already in a state of disrepair after the strike. Traffic is somewhat restricted there, and that's why there are some restrictions. And it seems to me that they're preserving it precisely to allow them to leave, so as not to keep them on the peninsula. First and foremost, we're interested in civilians leaving, so they don't linger there," he said.

Moreover, according to Sazonov, we are interested in the military leaving there, since catching them in Crimea, in the mountains, could be very long and difficult. "So it's better if they go. I think that's precisely why they left this bridge in place. After all, we could tear it down," he said. As reported, the Russians currently do not use the Crimean Bridge for transporting explosive cargo, but if it is included in military logistics, it will not last long.

Thus, Captain 1st Rank of the Ukrainian Navy Reserve, Head of Security Programs at the Strategy XXI Center for Global Studies, Pavlo Lakiychuk, noted that the Crimean Bridge is the Russians' last hope. According to him, after it was "shot down" in 2023 by a successful sabotage operation, the Crimean Bridge was effectively removed from the logistics plan because "Putin feels very sorry for it." Therefore, logistics were transferred to the Kerch ferry crossing, which carried fuel tanks and ammunition wagons. In the fall, our guys destroyed it, and all three ferries were wrecked. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, there are now virtually no safe roads left for the occupiers in southern and eastern Ukraine.

"This is further proof that there will be no peaceful times for the occupiers on our land. This is reflected in the shortages – primarily fuel – in Crimea and other occupied regions," the head of state said.

Following the explosion on the Kerch Bridge in 2022, when a Ukrainian attack ignited fuel tanks, fuel transportation across the bridge was banned. However, the bridge remains the main route for Russian tourists to reach Crimean resorts, the article states.

However, Russian tourism associations are already reporting a drop in bookings of approximately 50% compared to May.

"We didn't notice any food shortages—except for buckwheat and sugar. We were traveling around Crimea, and the beaches were completely empty," said a family of tourists from Moscow.

"We didn't see any fuel oil in the water, although locals said that sometimes traces of it appear on the rocks."

The tourist season in Crimea has not been formally cancelled, but its prospects remain extremely uncertain. Prominent pro-Russian military bloggers are already calling on the authorities to warn citizens about the dangers of travel.

Iran’s military and security forces are experiencing desertion problems, with desertion rates reaching as high as 90 percent in some units, Iran International media outlet reported on Monday. According to the report, 350 police forces abandoned their posts at a single base and the overall operational preparedness of security forces is believed to have declined. Low morale, economic hardship, dissatisfaction contribute to the unrest within segments of Iran’s military and security forces. According to information obtained by the outlet, an estimated 5,000 personnel from Iran’s military and security apparatus have been killed, with over 15,000 more injured, during the ongoing US-Israeli strikes that began on February 25. A significant portion of the fatalities occurred during air attacks targeting missile and drone divisions. Among those most heavily affected are members of the Revolutionary Guards, Basij militias, and units responsible for riot control. The same sources suggest that the government has attempted to keep the scale of losses from public view by limiting funeral and burial gatherings. Families of the deceased have reportedly been instructed to conduct mourning ceremonies in private. Information reviewed by Iran International indicates that members of certain police special units were informed on Friday of disruptions in salary payments. This marks the third such delay in recent months. In reaction, some personnel reportedly refused to participate in pro-government demonstrations, and operational deployments in several major cities were affected. Further reports suggest that retired personnel and some members of the regular army have gone unpaid for two consecutive months. There are also claims that some senior officials blame the Revolutionary Guards for taking advantage of financial difficulties at Bank Sepah, allegedly using the situation to weaken police forces while bolstering institutions aligned with the clerical leadership. Additional accounts indicate that the Revolutionary Guards have attempted to address staffing shortages by calling retirees back into service and offering certain prisoners amnesty in exchange for cooperation with security forces. Within the air force, morale and readiness are described as low. Following reports that a Yak-130 aircraft was shot down during an encounter with an Israeli F-35, many pilots are said to be hesitant to carry out combat missions against Israeli or US forces.
