Today, there are important updates from the Russian Federation.

Here, new satellite images are revealing a shocking truth about the capabilities of the Russian army to wage mechanized assaults. The released data shows an irreversible damage dealt by the Ukrainians that is worse than anyone imagined.

Russia’s vast armored reserves that were built over decades by the Soviet Union for a massive war against Nato are effectively gone, and the scale of the damage has become undeniable. What once looked like an almost inexhaustible reserve of tanks and armored vehicles has been burned through in just a few years of fighting in Ukraine. The Soviet system stockpiled these machines across half a century, preparing for a prolonged, high-intensity conflict against the Western alliance. Yet Ukraine has managed to dismantle this strategic reserve in record time, exposing a level of attrition that the system was never designed to withstand. As a result, Russia is no longer drawing from a deep reserve but scraping its bottom.

Satellite imagery from before the war in Ukraine showed the sheer scale of this legacy. Across dozens of storage bases stretching from European Russia to Siberia, thousands of tanks stood in long rows: T Seventy-two, T Eighty, T Sixty-two, and even older variants, alongside tens of thousands of infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers. Estimates placed the number of stored tanks alone between seven and ten thousand, part of a broader Soviet arsenal that once exceeded fifty thousand. These depots were not just reserves, but the backbone of the Soviet mobilization doctrine, designed to equip entire reserve armies in the event of a large-scale war with the West. For decades, they symbolized Russia’s ability to sustain combat at a scale no one was supposed to match.

However, new satellite imagery reveals a completely different reality, as the war in Ukraine has shattered this legacy in under four years. Alone losses verified through available footage by independent open-source analysts already exceed four thousand tanks and more than thirteen thousand armored vehicles, and the true numbers are likely significantly higher. Entire storage bases that once held thousands of vehicles now appear nearly empty, reduced to scattered hulks or stripped frames. Analysis of key depots shows that of the original stockpile, only around two thousand four hundred vehicles remain, but more importantly, just a fraction of those is in condition to be used, even for spare parts. In some locations, fewer than a hundred vehicles can be considered usable, as the rest have either been destroyed, cannibalized for parts, or degraded beyond repair after decades of neglect.

This depletion has had a direct and devastating impact on Russia’s campaign in Ukraine, as it has forced a fundamental shift in tactics. Instead of maneuver warfare supported by tanks and mechanized units, Russian forces increasingly rely on infantry-heavy assaults, often using light vehicles or even motorcycles to support infiltration attempts of groups of up to three soldiers. These tactics are slower, more exposed, and significantly more costly in terms of manpower. Without sufficient armored support, Russian units struggle to achieve breakthroughs, and even when they gain some ground through enormous losses, they lack the mobility to exploit it.

As a result, the pace of the war has changed, with large-scale offensives now missing due to the loss of the Russians' ability to conduct rapid assaults with enough fire support. What remains is a grinding war of attrition, where progress is measured in meters rather than kilometers, and losses far outweigh gains.

Overall, the implications for Russia go far beyond the battlefield, as the prolonged duration of the war has turned Russia’s last great military advantage into a strategic liability. What the satellite images reveal is not just loss but a forced transformation, as Russia has traded decades of preparation for minimal territorial gains, exhausting a resource that cannot be replaced. The vast reserves inherited from the Soviet Union, intended to guarantee dominance in a major conflict, have been consumed with little in return. Through this, Russia has lost its ability to regenerate combat power at scale, marking a turning point that may define the outcome of the war itself.

A mass shooting at a home in Erie left nine people dead, including two children and the gunman, in an incident local law enforcement described as the most devastating in the city's history. Police responded to a residence in the 700 block of Perry Street around 4:50 p.m. Friday after a automated gunshot detection alert. Witnesses reported seeing a man firing a handgun on the sidewalk, where two women were killed, before he ran inside the home. Tactical teams secured the area and later discovered six more victims and the suspect dead inside. Investigators determined that all the victims had died before officers arrived and that the unidentified shooter died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said there is no ongoing threat to the public, while Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro pledged the state's full support to Erie Mayor Daria Devlin as the investigation continues.

HUGE STRIKES LAST NIGHT. I examine the reported overnight Ukrainian strike wave against Russian industrial and logistics targets: FirePoint’s claimed FP-5 Flamingo missile hits on the Volgograd Promkets chemical facility, a fire at Rosneft’s Saratov oil refinery, damage at Saratov’s Ozon logistics hub, and a reported AN-196 Luty strike on the Azot chemical plant in Berezniki, Perm Krai. The strategic question is whether attacks on refining, chemical inputs, warehousing, and air traffic can impose compounding costs on Russia’s war-supporting economy.

I also compare Russian claims of 777 intercepted Ukrainian drones with open-source estimates nearer 320, and assess Russia’s own overnight attack: 161 drones and an S-800 Banderol, according to Ukraine, with deadly consequences in Pavlohrad. Finally, I cover the unusually high reported vehicle and unmanned ground-system losses, Russia’s digital-video-equipped Molina drones, and a wounded Ukrainian defender’s FPV-drone defense during an evacuation.

تنش میان جمهوری اسلامی و ایالات متحده بار دیگر وارد مرحله‌ای تازه شده است. وزارت خزانه‌داری آمریکا با اعمال دور جدیدی از تحریم‌ها، شبکه‌ای از شرکت‌های بیمه دریایی، چند نهاد و هشت نفتکش مرتبط با سپاه پاسداران را هدف قرار داده و اعلام کرده است این شبکه از طریق بیمه اجباری کشتی‌ها در تنگه هرمز و دریافت پرداخت‌ها با رمزارز، به تأمین منابع مالی سپاه کمک می‌کرده است.
همزمان، سنتکام اعلام کرده طی سه ماه گذشته امنیت عبور حدود هزار کشتی از تنگه هرمز را تأمین کرده و تأکید کرده است که سپاه پاسداران هیچ اختیاری برای تعیین مسیر حرکت کشتی‌های تجاری در این آبراه بین‌المللی ندارد. در ادامه نیز فرماندهی مرکزی ارتش آمریکا از آغاز حملات هوایی علیه اهدافی در ایران خبر داد و اعلام کرد موج نخست این عملیات با هدف قرار دادن مراکز فرماندهی، تأسیسات موشکی و پهپادی، سامانه‌های دفاع ساحلی و توانمندی‌های دریایی سپاه به پایان رسیده است. همزمان گزارش‌هایی از وقوع انفجار در استان‌های خوزستان، هرمزگان، فارس و بوشهر منتشر شد.
دونالد ترامپ نیز با اشاره به حملات موشکی جمهوری اسلامی علیه نیروهای آمریکایی، اعلام کرد ایران می‌داند حمله آمریکا در راه است و تأکید کرد اکنون نوبت واشینگتن است که پاسخ دهد. همزمان رسانه‌هایی مانند وال‌استریت ژورنال و اکسیوس گزارش دادند فرمانده سنتکام طرحی برای تشدید حملات هوایی علیه جمهوری اسلامی آماده کرده و حمله موشکی اخیر به پایگاه آمریکا در اردن، کاخ سفید را به بررسی ازسرگیری عملیات گسترده نظامی سوق داده است.

از سوی دیگر، گزارش‌هایی از حمله پهپادی به یک نفتکش آمریکایی در بندر دمیاط مصر منتشر شد؛ هرچند مقام‌های مصری تنها وقوع آتش‌سوزی را تأیید کرده‌اند. همزمان عربستان سعودی نیز در حال رایزنی برای تشکیل ائتلافی بین‌المللی به‌منظور حفاظت از کشتیرانی در دریای سرخ در برابر حملات حوثی‌هاست.
در عرصه سیاسی نیز بنیامین نتانیاهو اعلام کرد اگرچه زمان سقوط جمهوری اسلامی قابل پیش‌بینی نیست، اما این اتفاق در نهایت رخ خواهد داد و تصمیم درباره ادامه مسیر تقابل با تهران بر عهده دونالد ترامپ است. همزمان عباس عراقچی استفاده آمریکا از خاک بلغارستان برای حمله به ایران را مصداق تجاوز دانست و علاءالدین بروجردی نیز از «انتقام سخت» علیه آمریکا و اسرائیل سخن گفت. همچنین شبکه اجتماعی ایکس حساب‌های خبرگزاری تسنیم را مسدود کرد و سپاه نیز از بسته شدن حساب روابط عمومی خود در تلگرام خبر داد.

Today, the biggest news comes from the Russian Federation.

Here, Ukraine’s Navy reported that it struck the Russian frigate Admiral Essen in the port of Novorossiysk with a Neptune missile. The Admiral Essen is a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles, which Russia uses to launch long range strikes against targets in Ukraine. The same operation also hit two other Kalibr missile carriers, a Buyan M class corvette and the frigate Admiral Makarov, with the Makarov suffering damage to its port side. These attacks come after Ukraine had already targeted both frigates in August, demonstrating that the Russian Black Sea Fleet is facing repeated attacks. According to the Ukrainian Navy, the purpose of these operations is to systematically degrade the Russian fleet’s ability to conduct combat operations, particularly its capacity to launch missiles against Ukraine. The naval strikes are also part of a much broader Ukrainian campaign aimed at destroying the platforms Russia relies on to attack Ukrainian cities. 

This strategy was demonstrated again in an earlier operation during which Ukrainian drones travelled eight hundred kilometers to reach Engels airbase, where they struck a Russian Tu ninety five strategic bomber. Satellite imagery captured the aftermath of the kamikaze drone attack, indicating that the aircraft was destroyed in the strike. Another Tu ninety five that had been damaged in an earlier Ukrainian strike was also visible at the airbase, proving the growing success of these strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that SBU Alpha special forces carried out the operation against the bomber, which also serves as a carrier for Russia’s long range cruise missiles. These bombers are particularly important targets because they can launch cruise missiles from hundreds of kilometers away, allowing them to attack Ukrainian cities while remaining far outside the range of Ukrainian air defense systems. By reaching the aircraft while they are still on the ground, Ukraine can therefore bypass that distance advantage and directly attack one of the platforms Russia depends on for its long range missile campaign.

To further complement these strikes, Ukrainian forces also targeted an Iskander M ballistic missile launcher on Russian territory near the Ukrainian border. The targeted position was used to launch Iskander and Zircon missiles towards Ukraine, making it a particularly important target for Ukraine. Unlike fixed missile installations, these launchers can rapidly relocate along Russia’s road network and change firing positions, making them much harder to detect and destroy. Successfully locating and striking one therefore demonstrates that Ukraine can reach Russia’s mobile missile forces despite their ability to relocate and change firing positions.

This strategy is becoming increasingly important because Ukraine cannot afford to rely solely on intercepting incoming missiles, which requires expensive interceptors available only in limited quantities. By attacking the platforms that launch missiles instead, Ukraine can prevent attacks before they begin. Destroying a bomber, damaging a warship, or eliminating a mobile missile launcher not only removes an immediate threat, but can also reduce Russia’s ability to carry out repeated strikes and ease the enormous pressure placed on Ukraine’s air defense network. According to Bloomberg, Putin is considering heavier ballistic missile strikes against Kyiv, aiming to eventually launch as many as two hundred missiles in a single attack. Russia is currently capable of launching around seventy seven missiles simultaneously, meaning that Moscow is seeking to dramatically increase the number of missiles it can fire. This is why Ukraine’s strategy of hunting down the launch platforms themselves is becoming increasingly significant. 

Overall, Ukraine is trying to change the economics of the missile war, which Russia uses to destroy Ukrainian cities. Russia can manufacture and launch more weapons, but losses reduce available launch capacity and complicate preparations. If Ukraine can repeatedly force Russia to hide or relocate its strike systems, Moscow’s missile arsenal becomes less useful. The real objective is therefore not simply interception, but making Russia’s long range strikes difficult to sustain.

Unilateral claims by IRGC officials regarding a bilateral Hormuz agreement with Oman remain unverified by Muscat, as Omani officials avoid provoking severe U.S. retaliation.

Compounding the political standoff is an unprecedented energy breakdown hitting the domestic front. Severe gasoline deficits—reaching 15 million liters daily—alongside rolling power outages and depleted strategic fuel reserves have forced gas stations to close across major cities like Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz, leaving long queues of stranded motorists in extreme heat. While President Masoud Pezeshkian's government considers slashing subsidies or hiking prices to manage the crisis, IRGC hardliners fiercely oppose drawing down military fuel reserves, creating an explosive internal divide as the Iranian People face unbearable living conditions.
