New satellite imagery from the Russian port of Azov shows damaged Russian tankers and cargo vessels gathered along the shoreline. After being destroyed in the massive Ukrainian strike campaign to cut off Crimea from the sea, many were towed back into ports, with Russian hoping they could still be repaired. In practice however, Russian crews are effectively dragging maritime corpses back to shore, only to send out more vessels along the same routes, and into the Ukrainian killing fields in the sea of Azov. This has become Russia’s maritime version of its suicidal frontal assaults on land, with fresh vessels sent forward while damaged and crippled ships from failed past blockade runs are dragged back to port.

The strike footage explains why the port is filling, as Ukrainian forces reported hitting over one-hundred and seventy-nine Russian vessels in only two weeks. Ukrainian footage shows drones moving from one Russian vessel to the next, clearly showing how quickly the attacks accumulate. Separate footage shows one ship burning in the Sea of Azov and another still flying the Russian flag after being struck. The Babylon cargo ship provides the clearest close view, with the remains of an exploded drone lodged in its side and fire damage or another impact visible inside. The pace of losses is not slowing down, with Russians losing almost the same number of ships every day, meaning that many more will soon be promoted to submarine. At this point, every Russian ship entering these waters follows scores of others that had already been hit, yet Moscow kept sending in the next.

Recent upgrades to the FP one and FP two drones are one of several improvements increasing the effectiveness of Ukrainian strikes against Russian vessels. Both models have received terminal guidance and automatic target acquisition, allowing their onboard systems to identify a moving ship and correct the flight path during the final approach. Russians have been trying to counter the drones by mounting machine guns and electronic warfare emitters on vessels to shoot them down or sever the operator’s control signal. Once the target has been acquired, however, the drone can continue the attack autonomously even if that signal is lost. The operator brings the drone onto the vessel, and the onboard system then keeps the target centered through the final seconds of flight, raising the accuracy of the strike.

With Russians now actively dragging damaged ships back to port for repairs, Ukraine has begun striking the tugboats that are sent out. These tugboats move toward disabled tankers and cargo ships so they can be evacuated, however released footage shows that Ukrainian forces are now destroying between one and two of them each day. Without a tugboat, the original ship remains stranded, repairs cannot begin, and damage that might have been temporary becomes permanent. Russia must then send another recovery vessel into the same threatened waters, reproducing the suicide assault pattern at sea as one casualty pulls a second ship forward and risks turning the rescue mission into another loss.
This intense pressure has already reduced the ferry crossings over the Kerch strait by a reported seventy five percent, leaving some vessels out of service and others only able to move if they are dragged back and forth by the tugboats.

Overall, Russia now faces a choice between reducing maritime traffic and continuing to feed more vessels into a campaign that has already made losses routine. Even when no ship is hit, tighter sailing schedules and heavier protection will reduce how much cargo can pass through the Sea of Azov. As the number of usable ships falls, ports will spend more time handling damaged vessels and less time moving cargo. Ukraine can therefore keep cutting Russian maritime capacity without sinking every target, because every damaged ship held in port is one less vessel available for the next voyage.

Russian frontlines on the Lyman front have collapsed as the Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps has seen major successes in the third phase of Operation Vivaldi. After Diversionary attacks successfully diverted Russian forces to the southern end of the Salient Ukrainian forces attacked the northern flank at Nove, crushing the defending Garrison with remote operated BTR-60 APCs laden with explosives. the town quickly fell to Ukrainian forces, and left hundreds of Russians at threat of encirclement. over 250 Russian soldiers have surrendered en masse as a result- the largest such surrender seen in the entire war since May 2022. Meanwhile Russia has conducted an attack on the NATO border, with drones hitting and exploding around the Yahodyn border crossing only a half mile away from the land border with Poland. Air Raid sirens throughout the eastern regions of Poland, and the air force was scrambled with orders to shoot anything down that crosses. Meanwhile the British government has released the Fairford suspects on bail, and stated that the drums in the van were filled with material that would not make "viable explosives."

Today, the biggest news comes from the Ukrainian border.

Here, a Ukrainian bomber hit a Russian military staging area, reportedly killing at least five soldiers, wounding eight others, and leaving four missing in action, as shown by geolocated footage released by Ukrainian units operating in the area. The attack also destroyed communications equipment and seriously wounded two Russian signalmen, which complicated their ability to maintain cohesion between neighboring units. The site was also being used to assemble small Russian infantry groups before dispersing them throughout Vovchansk to infiltrate Ukrainian positions. In one strike, Ukrainian forces carried out artillery and drone strikes against Russian troop concentrations and support facilities around Vovchansk. Ukrainian forces then carried out additional strikes across the border in Russia’s Belgorod region. Russian troops had converted a building at an abandoned sugar factory into a logistics hub, ammunition depot, and drone operator post supporting their operations in the Kharkiv region. As a result of the strike, the two guided bombs partially destroyed the facility. Separately, Ukrainian FPV drones struck a fuel and lubricants depot in the industrial zone of Shebekino, triggering explosions and fires at the site. This complicated the ability of Russian units to conduct mechanized attacks, while also denying Russian drone crews the opportunity to refill their generators, which are needed to charge their drones.

Russia is using these rear areas to accumulate forces and equipment to send large numbers of additional troops to their forward positions. Their task is to strengthen the forward groups, secure the gaps between them, and surround Ukrainian forces against the international border. In order to deny Russia the opportunity to encircle thousands of Ukrainian troops, Ukraine is attacking the places where Russian troops gather and where their supplies are stored, disrupting reinforcements before they can strengthen the frontline.

The scattered nature of Russian positions in this sector creates a growing demand for troops, because each isolated position requires soldiers not only to continue the attack, but also to hold captured ground and protect the routes connecting these positions. This puts increasing pressure on the Russian command, particularly after it claimed to have completely encircled Ukrainian forces. Every time Ukrainian strikes hit Russian troops, staging areas, or supply lines, additional soldiers and equipment are needed to replace losses and reinforce vulnerable positions. As more resources are diverted to keeping these scattered positions supplied and connected, fewer remain available for further advances, making it increasingly difficult for Russia to turn its claimed encirclement into a fully secured operation.

This means that the alleged encirclement is not complete and is really fragile. Russian forces infiltrated behind Ukrainian lines, but were unable to fully consolidate their gains because of Ukrainian resistance and strikes on the supply lines and staging areas. Much of the ground between Russia’s forward groups remains a grey zone, so neither side fully controls it. Because of the nature of these isolated pockets that are controlled by Russian soldiers, Ukrainian forces can still move through those gaps that were left during the Russian advance. By exploiting these gaps, Ukrainian forces can disrupt the logistics of the Russians and encircle the troops that managed to slip through the Ukrainian defenses.

Overall, Russia now faces a race between bringing in enough fresh troops to complete the encirclement and replacing the forces and equipment being lost to Ukrainian strikes. The positions Russia has already reached still require constant reinforcements, ammunition, and supplies simply to keep them operational. If Ukrainian attacks continue consuming those resources faster than Russia can replace them, the troops needed for the final push will instead be tied down sustaining the positions already captured. This means that Russia’s ability to complete the encirclement depends not only on advancing further, but on whether it can generate enough additional forces to do so without exhausting the resources needed to hold its current gains.

1) by Manouchehr Kouhestani:

Come! Your love hath set my wits astray,
Once a fair town, I'm now in disarray;
From home and kin, your love hath made me part,
To dwell within the house of aching heart.

Inert, I was, too shamed to speak thereof,
Yet, at your sight, I found my life's true love;
I saw our souls were kindred, pure and true,
From kith and kin, I've strayed, dear one, for you.

I read of lovers' tales both night and day,
And now, in love with you, I am the play.

***********

By all the lives of drunkards, I do swear,
I am besotted, ruthless love, beware;
Upon the soul of every myrmidon,
A kindred spirit, now I am become.

By souls emancipated, I declare,
In this sweet potion, freedom's in the air;
As learned scribe, like Mercury, I'd fare,
O'er scholars all, with ink and slate to bear.

But when the wine-bearer's brow came into view,
I drowned in drink, and all my quills I threw.

***********
Thou bid'st me tear the veil of honour's claim,
And so, obedient, I forsook its fame;
Thou bid'st me shatter chalices, and hence,
I left my friends to bind my heart to thine embrace.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
2) by JZ

Come! For in your love I have lost my mind.
Once a city, now I am a ruin.

From your love I moved out of my home, left my family.
Now my bedmate is the pain of longing.

Never mind how passive I was before I saw you.
Now I’m a real man.

When I saw how sweetly our souls were related
I became a stranger to my own family.

Day and night I consumed the tales of lovers,
Now consumed by your love, I am the tale.

I swear on the souls of all holy drunkards, I am drunk on your love!
O Beloved, take my hand.

I swear by all who risk their lives for God, I am life.
I swear on the souls of the freed, I am free!

I trailed after books like Mercy after the sun.
I ranked high among intellectuals.

When I saw what was written on the Wine-bearer’s face
I broke all pens in my drunken frenzy.

You commanded, rip the veil; I ripped it!
You commanded, break the chalice; I broke it!

You commanded I cut ties with my friends.
I left all and bound myself to you.
