«اگر جمهوری اسلامی هر اقدامی انجام دهد که جریانِ نفت در تنگه‌یِ هرمز را متوقف کند، آمریکا آنها را ۲۰ برابر شدیدتر از آنچه تاکنون هدف قرار گرفته‌اند، هدف قرار خواهد داد. افزون بر این، ما اهدافی را که به‌آسانی قابل نابودی هستند از میان خواهیم برد؛ اهدافی که باعث خواهند شد بازسازی ایران به‌عنوان یک کشور، بار دیگر، عملاً ناممکن شود؛ مرگ، آتش و خشم بر آنها فرود خواهد آمد، اما من امیدوارم و دعا می‌کنم که چنین اتفاقی رخ ندهد.
این یک هدیه از سوی آمریکا به چین و به همه کشورهایی است که به طور گسترده از تنگه هرمز استفاده می‌کنند. امیدوارم این حرکت به شدت مورد قدردانی قرار گیرد.
